YOUR SKIN TONES ROLE IN POLICE BRUTALITY

Although some may believe that Racism is no longer prevalent in the issue of police brutality, the disparities in the treatment of different races might shock you.

Alfontish Cockerham, was a 23-year-old black man that was shot by a Chicago Police Officer. It was found that it was the Officers fault so his family took his case to civil court and was luckily rewarded 1.18million dollars(ABC news).

Black Victims of Police Brutality are usually met with little to no reimbursement and no punishment towards the Officer. Though Cockerham's family is lucky as they were rewarded the much-deserved 1.18million the white cop who shot him, Anthony Babicz, received no punishment.

Similarly, Justine Ruszczyk, an Australian woman that was 40 years old with white skin was brutally killed by a police officer in Minneapolis. It had been proven it was the Officers fault, Mohammad Noor, so they took this case to civil court. Mohammad Noor was accused of third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and the victims white family was paid 20 million(New York Times).  These disparities you can see in these cases were all due to one difference, the color of their skin.
